To the obvious question, Paul Lowman - the main force behind this activity, has written an appropriate introduction:
It may come as a surprise to find a “walking group” within a running club so how did it all start?
In 2010 the Club saw some 20 plus members take on the National 3 Peaks challenge, which involves ascending the three highest mountains in the separate countries of GB, i.e. Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon, all in under 24 hours. The preparation and training for the event created the camaraderie that sowed the seeds of a walking group. The initial enthusiasm continued and resulted in the completion of the Yorkshire 3 peaks, namely Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside & Ingleborough, later that year. The great sense of achievement was maintained and the enthusiasm for the outdoor life continued.
After the initial ambitions were fulfilled many decided to continue with the walking both nationally and internationally. Overseas walks (holidays) have been timed to include races so that all tastes and ambitions are catered for. Destinations included, so far, have been Barbados, Spain, France & Slovenia.
Local and national walks now include everything from walking coastal paths to treks across Dartmoor, Exmoor, the Brecon Beacons, Snowdonia and The Lake District, but there are many more out there awaiting our discovery.
May I give my personal thanks to Paul for the great support he has given me in all of the walks that I have organised these past two years. In addition, my gratitude also goes to Sally Hutter, Mike Rose and Wendy Williams. They all know how much they have helped me last year. Some of their walks will also be included on this website.
The headings are self-explanatory and I hope to add information to each as time passes.
